The Universe Knows
Over the last year, I took steps in my life to become a more positive person, to defeat negativity and to try to only put 'good vibes' out into the universe. At first, I wasn't sure about all of this. I'm a big believer in karma, but always rolled my eyes at things like vision boards or books like 'The Secret,' so when things began to come together I was surprised to find that it worked. The more I thought about being positive, the more positivity was thrown back at me. This experience led me to begin visualizing and mapping out goals for what I wanted to accomplish in my life. I found that when I told people my ambitions, people were quick to offer help or an introduction to the right person to help. I asked my network for help and support, and they provided.
While this all sounds a bit 'woo woo,' something I've struggled with learning is that people actively want to see you succeed, they want to see you achieve your goals and they generally want to help you get there. When you put something out into the universe for all to hear, you are solidifying your concept. Although it might not be where you end up, you have put it out there that this is something you want. For example, when searching for a new role, I will often mention to my friends and close network that I'm "thinking of making a change," this is a signal that while I'm not ready to entirely resign, but I am thinking about the future and what my next steps might be. These simple signals are usually enough for people to keep an eye out for you and to help you reach those next steps.
When putting out a request into the universe, I'm also a firm believer if you receive you also have to give. For me this looks like signing up for mentor hours at various startup hubs, being a shoulder to lean on for friends and offering up my time to causes that are close to my heart. What goes around comes around as the old saying goes, and in the end, we are all here to support each other, whether that be getting a new job, finding a new home or simply trying to save some much-needed cash.
So, I challenge you to ask people to help you achieve your goals, put your intentions out there in the universe and see what comes back. I used to keep stuff close to the chest, but now as a more open individual, I've discovered that the more I talk about my challenges and my goals, the more I am succeeding and making a difference.
